With the Saturday sun gradually setting behind the Dorset hills and the booming basslines from the Martyrs' Marquee echoing across the damp green fields. Tolpuddle Comedy Club took over the Solidarity Tent, on the GMB field, for the fourth night of comedy at the world famous Trade Union meet.
And what a night it was, full of laughter, fun and chaos - as all comedy nights should be. It was an absolute pleasure to compere for such a warm and willing crowd and some incredibly good dogs. I even took advantage of the wireless mic to roam the crowd saying hello to the canine crowd-members, in lieu of more traditional crowdwork.
A special thanks to all the acts who made the night so much fun for everyone, braving the rain to really deliver the goods. Chelsea Birkby, Nate Kitch and Simon Munnery were all hilarious and delivered delightfully entertaining sets to the assembled audience, the rain even stopping for the latter half of the show to allow more patrons to crowd around the outside of the tent.
It was one of the most fun gigs I have ever had the privilege to MC and a pleasure to spend the evening in the company of one of my comedy heroes, as well as such a fun audience. After the issues with the weather last year and the impact they had on the festival, leading to the Saturday and Sunday being cancelled, it was especially poignant to be having so much fun in the rain. Thank you to everyone at Tolpuddle for another fun night and I look forward to being back next year.
